Almagro crashes out of Brasil Open

Portugal’s Frederico Gil recorded a 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-4) victory over the world number 18.

The 23-year old will face Thomaz Bellucci in the last four after the Brazilian overcame Spain’s Juan Carlos Ferrero 7-6 (7-5) 1-6 6-3.

The other semi-final will be a rematch of a clash at Vina del Mar last week as Argentina’s Jose Acasuso takes on Tommy Robredo of Spain.

Fourth seed Acasuso, who won last week’s clash, overcame Eduardo Schwank 6-4 6-3, while second seed Robredo defeated Alberto Martin 6-2 6-2.
