Alexander Zverev reclaims career-high ranking for first time in two and a half years

Alexander Zverev has equalled his best ever ranking following his run to the semi-finals of the Paris Masters.

The German is on a hot streak of form, winning 28 of 31 matches played since Wimbledon.

Moreover, he has claimed two titles and an Olympic singles gold medal along the way.

Now, after reaching the last four at the final Masters event of the year, Zverev is back to third in the ATP rankings, equalling his career-high.

The 24-year-old last held the position in April 2019, falling to fourth following that year’s BMW Open in Munich.

Zverev is now completely level on ranking points with fellow ATP Finals competitor Stefanos Tsitsipas at 6,540.

In the event of a tie, the first differentiating factor is combined points from Slams, Masters 1000 event and the ATP Finals main draw.

As a result, Tsitsipas has a total of 4,580 points from those categories, while Zverev boasts 5,000 points, putting him ahead in third.

Daniil Medvedev is 1,100 points ahead in second, with Novak Djokovic a further 3,300 points up in first.

Zverev first achieved the ranking of world number three in November 2017 at the age of just 20.

That year was his joint most prolific season in terms of titles claimed, equal with 2021, at five. That included his first two Masters 1000 titles in Rome and Montreal.

The German has since claimed three more titles at Masters level, an ATP Finals crown in 2018 and the aforementioned Olympic gold in Tokyo this year.

He also reached a maiden Slam final at the 2020 US Open, losing the Dominic Thiem there. Zverev is yet to claim a Major title.
