Alexander Zverev holds massive unwanted lead on ATP list that includes Djokovic & Nadal
It’s the list that no-one wants to be top of but unfortunately for German star Alexander Zverev he leads the rankings by some distance
Alexander Zverev has served the most double faults in Grand Slam matches in 2019 with 131 double faults in the 10 Grand Slam singles matches he’s played. This is 26 more than Benoit Paire who is in second place and 46 more than Marin Cilic in third place. What’s even more concerning for Zverev is his ratio of ‘average number of double faults per match’ which stands at 13.1. Compare this to Novak Djokovic who serves on average just 3.9 double faults per match in a Grand Slam or Rafa Nadal who serves just 2.4 double faults per match and you can start to see how bad this looks for the ‘Next Gen’ star.

If Zverev serves on average 11 more double faults per match than Nadal in a 3 set Grand Slam singles match then that’s equivalent to nearly a whole game of double faults per set. In other words, one break of serve per set can be put down to double faults, a shocking statistic that may well be contributing to the recent run of losses that Zverev has suffered.

At the US open Zverev lost in 4 sets in the 3rd round to Diego Schwartzman after winning the first set. In that match Zverev served 17 double faults compared to Schwartzman’s 1 therefore giving away 16 points to double faults, equivalent to 4 full service games of unforced serving errors.
