One of the few sports venues in the world capable of maintaining its tradition while constantly pushing the boundaries of technological innovation, the All England Club has been recognised for one of its latest forward-thinking projects.

The 3D coverage of this year’s Championships, which we sampled for ourselves at SW19’s branch of Odeon cinema during the tournament, has been recognised in the 2011 Sport Technology Achievement Awards due to take place on September 10.

Along with the BBC, CAN Communciate, Sony Professional and NEP Visions, the AELTC have been awarded for ‘Outstanding achievement in Stereo 3D’ for their dynamic showcasing of the men’s semi-finals and the men’s and women’s finals this July.

“For six years the Sport Technology Achievement Awards have honoured innovators like HBS, OBS, France Televisions, SIS Live for work on events like the World Cup, Olympics, and more,” says Martin Porter, SVG Europe co-executive director.

“This year’s recipients continue a tradition of innovation in sport production that advances the sport production marketplace.”

Meanwhile, CBS Sports, Panasonic and the USTA have announched that the US Open will be broadcast in 3D for the second year running. Expanded coverage at the final Grand Slam of the year, which starts on Monday, will include all Arthur Ashe Stadium matches that are broadcast  in HD on Labour Day weekend and finals weekend, as well as selected matches from Louis Armstrong Stadium.
